Instructions for Interior Shiitake Mushroom Grow Kit

Shiitake culture

This Grow Kit is designed to give you a scientific experience, tasty mushrooms, and fun. It is made up of a living mycelium block, substrate, and water. In the right conditions, the first harvest is guaranteed.

Instructions

Before starting, make sure that the kit is mature enough, meaning the white mycelium has turned brown and has started producing small buds that resemble popping corn. If those conditions aren’t met, keep the bag closed and the Grow Kit at room temperature. For later use, store the Grow Kit in the refrigerator for up to four weeks.

1. Hydration
Make a horizontal incision at the top of the plastic bag. Fill the bag with cold water and let the block submerged in the refrigerator for 12-24 hours. Empty the excess water and remove the plastic bag, which can be kept for a second harvest. Place the block in a container that will retain moisture. Spray the walls of the container and the kit itself every day. Caps that crack, turn yellow, or stall indicate a lack water. In this case, remove the block from its container and submerge it in cold water for 1-6 hours. Drain the excess water and place it back in the container.
2. Harvesting
After 4-8 days, once the caps have unfolded, harvest all the mushrooms. If the spores (in the form of fine white powder) have spread, do not wait any longer.
3. Repeat
Between harvests, store the kit in the plastic bag in the refrigerator. After 10 days, resume from step 1 for a new cycle.

Fruiting Temperature

21-27 °C

Exposure

Indirect light

Mist

1-4 times a day

Moisture

Constant 75-95%

Harvest

After 4-8 days, 1-2 times

Pause

5-10 days between harvests

Tips for moisture

Place a damp towel at the bottom of the tray. Put a plate on top and position the block on it. Do not fully close the tray to allow air circulation. Mushrooms need to breathe; otherwise, they will develop a long stem and a small cap.

Cook

On medium heat 7-10 minutes

Disposal

After several harvests, the substrate has been fully utilized. The block of mycelium can be composted, and the plastic bag and box recycled. Visit our website to learn how to reuse the kit to grow more mushrooms on new substrate or in the garden.
