Paint the World of Mushrooms – A Watercolour Workshop

Discover the art of botanical watercolour painting through the lens of mycology! Whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned artist, this creative workshop invites you to slow down, observe, and capture the beauty of mushrooms on paper.

Guided by illustrator Virginie Egger at the Mycoboutique studio, you will spend 2 hours exploring watercolour techniques while painting your favourite fungi. No prior art experience required — just curiosity and a love of mushrooms!

What You Will Learn

  • Watercolour Basics: Brush control, wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, and layering techniques.
  • Mushroom Observation: How to study form, texture, and colour in fungi.
  • Composition Tips: Arranging your subject for a balanced, beautiful painting.
  • Colour Mixing: Achieving earthy, natural tones that bring mushrooms to life.
  • Finishing Touches: Adding depth, shadows, and fine details.

Everything you need is provided — quality watercolour paper, professional-grade paints, brushes, and reference specimens. Just show up and create!

Your Instructor – Virginie Egger

Virginie Egger is an illustrator fascinated by human diversity. Through her singular technique of collaging cut photographs fused with painting and ink, she expresses the multiplicity of cultures, forms, and colours. She approaches the most diverse subjects with original ideas and strong compositions, seasoned with humour.

Her bold illustrations have been published in numerous magazines in Canada, the United States, and Europe. She is the author and illustrator of several children's books, and her work has received many distinctions, including the prestigious Governor General's Literary Award.

Born in Switzerland, she lives in Montréal with her two children. Her sketchbook and backpack are always ready for a journey.
