Grain spawn is a key tool for cultivating Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum), a mushroom renowned for its medicinal properties, decorative appeal, and use in mycomaterials production. It consists of sterilized grains (millet, wheat, or oats) fully colonized by Reishi mycelium. Thanks to the large number of small grains offering an extensive colonization surface and their nutrient density, this medium promotes rapid and vigorous mycelial growth.
Using grain spawn requires an intermediate level of knowledge in mushroom cultivation. It is intended for those who have already worked with substrates, understand aseptic principles, or wish to move beyond ready-to-use kits to more advanced production.
Applications of Reishi Grain Spawn:
-
Substrate Inoculation: Ideal for inoculating pasteurized or sterilized substrates such as hardwood sawdust, straw, or coffee grounds.
-
Mycelium Expansion: Can be used to produce more spawn by adding it to new sterilized grains.
-
Mycomaterials Production: Suitable for creating eco-friendly, biodegradable, and innovative mycelium-based materials.
-
Medicinal or Ornamental Cultivation: Used to produce fruiting bodies for extraction of beneficial compounds (polysaccharides, triterpenes) or for decorative mushroom cultivation.
Product Description
Our Reishi grain spawn comes from a robust and productive Ganoderma lucidum strain. Each 1 kg bag can inoculate up to 20 kg of moist substrate for fruiting or mycelial development.
Reishi grows efficiently on hardwood-based substrates (sawdust, chips, hardwood or soy pellets). It fruits after several months of colonization under warm, humid conditions. It can also be cultivated outdoors on logs such as maple, oak, beech, and hornbeam.
